Skallingen is part of the Wadden Sea a UNESCO world herritage preserved area and home for more the 15 million migratory birds
The birds prefer island life on Langli all year round. But people are only welcome from 16 July to 15 September along the ebb road, where you walk or wade from Nyeng in Ho to Langli. It is a nearly 4 km long trip, which takes 1-1½ hours each way. It is vital that you examine the weather conditions and tides before heading towards Langli. Normally you can walk on the ebb road from four hours after high tide in Esbjerg to two hours before high tide in Esbjerg.
For further information on water levels and tides, see either DMI or the Port of Esbjerg.
For most, it will be best to join a guided tractor trip to the island. Then you get help to discover nature and the birds - and not least the harbor seals. At the same time, Dødemandsbjerget is designated, where stranded bodies of unknown sailors were buried, and Langli Bjerge, which is the island's highest dune range with a view from a height of 14 m.
